The stud farm, home of our jumping horses at San Calogero began in the early 1900’s. Sicilian Anglo-Arab horses in particular were considered a sign of excellence in the region. This race was born out of cross-breeding English Thoroughbred and Oriental horses from the most elegant lines, which took precedence over sportive qualities at the time. The family shared this passion and all participated in the breeding of such horses from ancient bloodlines from Continental Europe. Their efforts were intended to enhance the positive features present in old genealogies. They were successful and have been awarded for their top quality horses who come from the Stud and have gone on to excel in the equestrian world. Zigolo di San Calogero is their most represented horse, who took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He has obtained recognition of being the first Italian horse, after almost 40 years of absence, to take part in the Olympic Games.
